    PRODUCT INFORMATION

    Description

Quick answer: albino congo tetra (Phenacogrammus interruptus) are large tetras sold at 6.5 cm. They are peaceful, show pale cream scales and long flowing fins, and they suit bigger planted tanks better than nano setups.

Most tetras are small. This one is not. At 6.5 cm it already has presence, and adults reach around 8 cm, which puts it in a different category from a neon or a rummy nose. That size is the reason it sells to customers with bigger tanks who still want a schooling fish.

    Identification

A deep bodied tetra with pale cream to white scales, red eyes and long, trailing dorsal and caudal fins in mature males. The albino form loses the blue and orange iridescence of the normal Congo tetra and replaces it with a clean, pale look that stands out against green plants.

    Water parameters

24 to 27 degrees Celsius, pH 6.0 to 7.2, soft and slightly acidic water. They are peaceful but nervous in bright, bare tanks, so dim light, planting and a group of six or more are important for settled behaviour.

    Behaviour and tank mates

Calm schoolers that spend most of their time in midwater. They are too large to be bullied by most community fish and too peaceful to bother anything else. Angelfish, larger rasboras, corydoras and peaceful loaches all work.

    Grading and packing

Fish are graded at 6.5 cm and packed in oxygen at moderate density. Their long fins need room in the bag, and larger specimens are packed individually or in small groups. Fasting before dispatch keeps the water clean on longer routes.

    Tank size and layout

These are strong swimmers and they use length. A 90 cm tank is a sensible minimum for a group of six, and 120 cm is better. Plant the back and sides rather than the open middle, leave swimming space along the front glass, and keep the light moderate. A school of pale fish moving through green plants is the image that sells the species, and it needs the tank to be built for it rather than filled around it.
